In the wake of Daniel's drag-queen inspired demise, the contestants get ready for another day. Kenley is sad to see Daniel go. Keith is a bit "overwhelmed" to have been in the bottom two last week. Still, he wants to "change to the way the world dresses."
"Hallo!" says Heidi, who struts down the runway in a vertically striped black-and-white number. Joe decides to stay with his model, sending two models home.
Heidi then tells the contestants to head to a nearby rooftop for their next challenge. The motley crew arrives at a parking garage and head to the tippy top to find a collection of (product placement alert!) Saturn hybrids. The challenge: design an outfit using spare car parts.
Wha?
Tim explains that the would-be designers have four minutes to collect items -- ranging from floor mats to seat covers to seat belts. "They looked beautiful, so I was already getting inspiration," Blayne says of the seat covers. Uh-huh. Suede, meanwhile, has collected carburetors, lights and other "wack-a-doodle things."
Back at the workshop, Tim announces that the winner will have immunity. Joe notes that the challenge is unconventional at best -- making him feel even better about winning last week's challenge. "It feels great to have immunity," Joe says. "At this point, it's just gold."
In the meantime, the other contestants try to break apart headlights, license plates and other materials not commonly used outside of a Mad Max epic. Once again, Suede notes that making an outfit out of a rubber floor mat is "wack-a-doodle." Yes, indeed.
Stella is inspired to do something "pretty." Keith is creating tan leather pieces to create a "pencil skirt that is high waisted." Korto has an idea to do a "weaving process" using seat belts. Kenley notes that most of the designers are using seat belts, so she decides to draw a zebra print on what look likes an air filter.
The sewing machines, meanwhile, aren't dealing particularly well with the materials. Nevertheless, Jerell is "whistling dixie" with his "chic and elegant top." Leanne is making a cocktail dress with car seat covers. Stella worries that her creation will end up looking like "Planet of the Apes."
With five hours to go, most everyone is behind in their work. Tim enters and sends in the model. He also has bad news: Kenley's model Shannon has dropped out of the competition for reasons unknown to viewers. One of the dispatched models from earlier reenters the fray. Kenley is less than pleased.
"My new model Jermaine has a completely different body," she explains. "So I have to change everything."
Ouch.
The rest of the designers are getting excited about their creations. The models leave and Kenley continues "freaking out." A few hours later, Tim (or "Timlicous," according to Blayne) returns to check out the contestants' progress.
He worries about the shape of Blayne's seat-belt dress and thinks Jerell's car-seat corset is "beautiful." Korto's coat has a "60s mod look" that Tim thinks is "fabulous." He worries that Stella isn't taking her creation "far enough" before deeming Leanne's dress "extremely well executed." Keith's high-waisted skirt is a work in progress.
Tim leaves and Terri begins poking fun at Korto's "scarecrow" design ... which doesn't sit well with Jerell.
"She's got two faces and four patterns, that's it," he says of Terri. "Don't trust the *****."
Time is running out. The contestants race to finish ... and nerves begin to fray. Keith snaps, telling no one in particular to leave his sewing machine alone. "Keith's attitude has been super weird lately," Blayne notes. "(He) is kind of getting a little 'tude."
The next morning, Tim once again sends the models into the workshop. A montage of hair and make up later, the contestants have 10 minutes to prepare their outfits for the runway. It's a race to the proverbial finish line.
"Welcome to the runway," says Heidi, earning her paycheck. "As you know in fashion, one day you're in and the next day, you're out."
Heidi then introduces the judges: Michael Kors, season three finalist Laura Bennett (filling in for Nina Garcia) and Rachel Zoe. The models proceed to strut their designers' stuff while the judges dutifully take notes.
Shockingly (that's sarcasm), the contestants gush over their own creations. But what will the judges say?
Heidi asks the following designers to step forward: Terri, Suede, Joe and Kenley. Those four move on to the next challenge. The remaining designers have the highest and lowest scores. "One of you will be named the winner and one you will be out," Heidi explains and not the first time either.
The judges love what Jerell has done. Blayne? Not so much. "It's so chic, I can not believe it's from car parts," Rachel says of Korto's outfit. Now onto Leanne. "I think you could go straight to Paris with this dress," Rachel gushes. Stella's creation is deemed "random" by Michael. Keith's outfit goes over like, well, last week's debacle.
"There's criticism and there's insults," a hurt Keith says.
The contestants leave the runway and the judges kibitz. It's decision time.
Jerell is in. The winner is Leanne. Korto is in. Blayne is in.
Only Stella and Keith remain.
"Keith, this was a chance to be innovative and you showed us a boring, poorly crafted design," Heidi says. "Stella, there was no surprise. Your look was expected, disconnected and, ultimately, too simple."
Stella is in. Keith is out.
"I didn't want people to see my tears," says a weepy Keith. "Living in Utah I don't have a lot of opportunity to get out. This was supposed to be my opportunity."
Alas, Keith goes back to Utah ... and we can't wait for next week!
