The last weekend of the summer means the multiplexes will be crammed with Hollywood's leftover products, most of them rolled out without being screened for critics (never a good sign). But don't despair! The Indie Spotlight is here to fill you in on the limited-release, art-house films opening this weekend, and if they're not playing where you live, you can keep an eye out for when they do arrive. See, it gives you something to look forward to!
The six films opening today are, in alphabetical order: Ballet Shoes, I Served the King of England, My Mexican Shivah, Sukiyaki Western Django, Year of the Fish, and Young People F***ing. In a slightly more subjective order, here's the scoop on each of them.

Courtesy of Screenvision, the BBC film Ballet Shoes will premiere in Us cinemas. The movie follows three girls: Pauline, Petrova and Posy Fossil, each of whom is discovered as a baby by their guardian, an absent-minded geologist named Matthew Brown. Emma Watson stars. British actress Dame Eileen Atkins has beaten competition from fellow Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith to scoop the prize for Best TV actress at the U.K.'s Broadcasting Press Guild Awards.
The 73-year-old took home the honour for her roles in Bbc dramas Cranford and Ballet Shoes.
Cranford, a series based on three Elizabeth Gaskill novels, won four gongs including Best Drama and Best Writer.
The awards, which took place in London on Friday, are voted for by British journalists.
