The Blair Witch Copycat Project
22 April 2017 | by (Old London, New England) – See all my reviews

In the literary world, plagiarism is a dirty word - in the movie industry, it's just another way to fleece the public. The makers of 'Phoenix Forgotten' demonstrate their cynicism and creative bankruptcy by churning out an anemic Sci-Fi copycat version of 'The Blair Witch Project' without offering a single moment of vitality or originality.

In this shameless re-tread, UFOs in the Arizona skies are substituted for a malevolent spirit in rural Maryland - a trio of high schoolers stand in for three college students - unseen spooky aliens moan in the dark instead of an invisible backwoods spook. Apart from these minor variations, the plot, atmosphere, second-rate acting, third-rate direction, fifth-rate cinematography and embarrassingly similar climax are tawdry imitations of the original. 'Phoenix Forgotten' runs for 80 minutes, but feels a lot longer - this dismal imposter should be avoided at all costs.
